The Black Madonna of Reunion, also known as Our Lady of Deliverance, is a deeply venerated Marian figure on the island. Her history dates back to the 19th century, when missionaries brought a statue of the Virgin to Réunion to encourage the Catholic faith among the island's inhabitants, who often came from diverse cultural backgrounds.
