Saint George is a model of courage, faith and the fight against evil. Born in the 3rd? century in Cappadocia (now Turkey), he was a Christian Roman soldier under the Emperor Diocletian. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was martyred, becoming a symbol of spiritual resistance. His story is linked above all to the legend in which he slays a dragon that was terrorising a town. Saint George is the patron saint of many countries and regions, including England, Georgia and Catalonia. He is celebrated on 23 April.
