The virtues of Saint Charbel: obedience, silence and holiness

Obedience lived in joySaint Charbel embraced obedience as a true path to God. From the moment he entered the monastery, he chose to renounce his own will in order to follow that of his superiors, which he saw as a direct expression of the divine will. This obedience was never coerced or passive, but freely chosen, lived in peace and humility. Read more...

The story of Saint Charbel: a Maronite monk in the heart of the Lebanese mountains

A child of Lebanon, marked by faithBorn in 1828 in the small village of Bekaa Kafra in northern Lebanon, Youssef Antoun Makhlouf grew up in a deeply religious Maronite Christian family. Orphaned at a very young age, he was brought up by his mother, who passed on to him a simple and robust faith. From an early age, Youssef was drawn to a life of prayer and solitude. He spent hours in a cave not far from his home, transformed into a small hermitage, where he meditated and prayed far from the tumult of the world. At the age of 23, he left everything to enter the monastery of Notre-Dame de Mayfouq, then the monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya, where he took the name Brother Charbel, in homage to a martyr of the ancient Church. He was ordained a priest in 1859. Read more...

To honour your patron saint is to make a concrete place for him or her in your life, to learn to walk alongside him or her in the light of God. Read more...

The patron saint can be chosen at baptism, confirmation, conversion, or simply as part of a personal journey of faith and inner growth. It is also common to choose a patron saint for a profession, an activity or an important stage in life. Read more...

Who is Saint Joseph?

St Joseph is one of the most mysterious yet important figures in the New Testament. Husband of the Virgin Mary, adoptive father of Jesus, protector of the Holy Family, he alone embodies fidelity, discretion, quiet strength and deep faith. He is often silent in the Gospels, but his role in God's plan is immense. His simple, hidden life inspires whole generations of believers, and his example remains profoundly relevant today.
