History of Santiago de Compostela

Saint James of Compostela, also known as James the Greater, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. The son of Zebedee and brother of the apostle John, he was one of the first disciples called by the Lord. The Gospels present him as a fiery man, sometimes carried away, but deeply faithful. Our Lady of Mount Carmel: Mother of Mercy and Contemplation

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the oldest and richest titles of the Virgin Mary, deeply rooted in biblical tradition and Christian spirituality. Mount Carmel is a mountain range in the Holy Land, in the north of Israel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It is famous in the Old Testament as the place of the prophet Elijah, a man of fire and fidelity, who confronted the prophets of Baal to bring the people back to the worship of the one God (1 Kings 18). It was in this spirit of spiritual combat, fervent prayer and secluded living that Carmel became a place of pilgrimage and contemplation. Read more...
