The Fifth Joyful Mystery of the Rosary, entitled "Jesus found in the Temple", is a landmark story in the life of Jesus that highlights his divine wisdom from an early age. This event, recounted in the Gospel according to Luke (2:41-52), takes place when Jesus is twelve years old and highlights both his humanity and divinity.

Every year, Mary and Joseph went to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover feast, in accordance with Jewish traditions. When Jesus was twelve, he accompanied them, as was customary for boys of that age to begin observing religious precepts more actively. After the feast, on their way back to Nazareth, Mary and Joseph realised that Jesus was not with them. Thinking that he was among the other members of the caravan, they did not immediately worry. However, after a day's journey, when they still could not find him, anguish overcame them.

So they hurried back to Jerusalem and searched for him for three days. At last they found him in the Temple, sitting among the teachers of the law, listening to them and questioning them. All who heard him were amazed at his intelligence and his answers. Mary, relieved but also perplexed, said to him: "My child, why have you done this to us? See, your father and I were looking for you, distressed." Jesus replied, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be with my Father?"

These words of Jesus are exceptionally profound. They reveal his divine identity and his awareness of his mission from an early age. By saying that he must be "at his Father's house", Jesus makes it clear that he recognises God as his Father and that he has come to fulfil a particular mission.

Mary and Joseph did not immediately understand the full meaning of his words, but Mary, as always, kept all these things in her heart. After this episode, Jesus returned with them to Nazareth and was subject to them, continuing to grow in wisdom, stature and grace before God and man.

This mystery is rich in spiritual lessons. First of all, it reminds us of the importance of seeking Jesus in our own lives, especially in times of anguish and confusion. It also invites us to meditate on the divine wisdom of Jesus and his unique relationship with God the Father. Moreover, this event highlights the importance of listening and learning, exemplified by Jesus sitting among the teachers of the law, a model for all believers seeking spiritual understanding.

By contemplating this mystery, the faithful are encouraged to deepen their own relationship with God, to seek to understand his will and to recognise Jesus' presence in the ordinary moments of everyday life. They are also called to imitate the example of Mary, who treasures and ponders the events of Jesus' life in her heart, always seeking to understand and follow the divine will.
