A free act of love

To pray for others is to make an act of love. It's not just a wish or a magic formula: it's a commitment of the heart. Intercession means praying not for oneself, but for a brother, a sister, a situation, a world in distress. It's saying to God: "I bring this person before You, because I love them and believe in Your love for them."

Intercessory prayer is a silent gift, often hidden, but one that bears powerful fruit. It is the invisible breath of the Church, supporting the sick, the lost, the discouraged, the sinners, the forgotten.

A prayer that reaches the heart of Christ

When we pray for others, we unite ourselves with Christ Himself, who intercedes unceasingly for humanity with the Father. He is the great intercessor, the One who prayed for Peter, for his disciples, for those who were going to believe. By praying for others, we participate in this mission of mercy.

Intercessory prayer tears us away from indifference. It widens our hearts. It makes us attentive, available, in solidarity. It makes us bridges between Heaven and Earth.

A strength in secrecy

Often, we do not see the immediate fruits of intercession. And yet, graces flow through it. Hearts are opened, decisions are changed, wounds are healed. It's not about getting exactly what we ask for, but about placing an intention in God's hands with trust and hope.

In intercession, we don't act in God's place, but we offer him availability. We become his instruments, his night-lights lit in the night.

A mission for everyone

You don't have to be a priest, monk or mystic to intercede. Anyone can do it, wherever they are. In a church, in your bedroom, walking, in silence or reciting a rosary. Intercession is accessible to everyone: children, young people, the elderly and the sick. It is the prayer of an open heart.

By choosing to pray for others, we move away from self-centredness and take part in God's work in the world. It is a humble but essential mission.

Prayer of intercession for those I love

Lord Jesus,

I present to You today those entrusted to my care.

You know them better than I do.

You see their struggles, their joys, their wounds, their deep needs.

I entrust to You the sick,

those who doubt, those who weep,

those who are alone, those who have lost faith,

those who are searching for meaning in their lives.

Come and visit them in Your love.

Come and touch them, lift them up, enlighten them.

And if I can, through my prayer, be a channel of Your grace,

then make me a faithful, discreet and persevering intercessor.

I believe Your light comes through even in silence.

I give You thanks for what You will do.
